Things to consider when choosing a Pilot School
There are two primary types of pilot schools:
Part 141 are schools audited by the Federal Aviation Administration.The minimum flight hours required for a private certificate is 35 For a commercial certificate this would be 190 hours minimum.These schools are accountable to the FAA and must use FFA approved courses and performance rates of students are carefully monitored.
Part 61 schools are not audited by the FAA and therefor accountability and paper work is considerably reduced.The minimum flight hours required for a private certificate in this case is 40.For a commercial certificate 250 hours minimum.Part 61 courses are better suited to part time students allowing them the flexibility to rearrange lesson content and times to meet their needs.
CONSIDER THE LOCATION – Obviously, you will try to find a pilot school that\'s located near your home, but if this isn't possible take time to consider the cost of travel and, maybe accommodation, before making a commitment to a particular flight school.Flying lessons are not cheap so make sure you have carefully worked out the overall costs involved.
CHECK FOR EXPERIENCE – Check out how long has the pilot school been in business.Are the instructors experienced veteran pilots? How many flight hours have they accrued. Do they and the school have a good reputation?
CHECK OUT THE FACILITIES – Very few students have their own planes, so be sure to find out if the school has suitable aircraft in top working order for students to use during training?
YOUR TIME – How much time do you intend to devote to flying? Are you looking for full or part time training? You will find that some schools only provide full time courses. Make sure you find out which school suits your needs.
YOUR OBJECTIVES – Why do you want to learn to fly an aircraft? Is it purely for recreational purposes or are you planning a career as a commercial or Airline pilot? If you plan to have a professional career as a pilot, you will have to devote many more hours of your time to training.
Are you looking to fly locally or internationally,do you want to fly, helicopters,jets or the giant Boing 747? When you can answer these questions you will be well on the way to knowing which pilot school and flight course is best suited for you.
TUITION RATES – You will find that tuition fees vary, depending on which pilot school you choose, therefor you need to look for a school that will,not only, give you a first class education and great value at an affordable cost. If you are a military veteran, your pension will let you enjoy lower rates only with Part 141 pilot schools.
ALLIANCES – You may be interested in getting additional flight courses and aviation degrees. If that is the case then look for universities and educational institutions that have alliances with aviation schools, allowing easy transfer of your course work.
Once you have found a pilot school that meets all your requirements based on the these factors then that will be the most suitable school for you to learn to fly!
